GO News – February 2024
Calls for Proposals:
The Mellon Foundation and the Flamboyan Foundation’s Arts Fund have announced a three-year continuation of the Letras Boricuas Fellowship. This $25,000 fellowship aims to identify, elevate, and amplify the voices of emerging and established Puerto Rican writers across literary genres, including fiction, creative nonfiction, children’s literature, poetry (including spoken word), and the newly added category of playwriting.
To be eligible for consideration for the Letras Boricuas Fellowship, writers must be 21 years or older at the time of application, current residents of Puerto Rico or the United States, and self-identify as Puerto Rican. Applicants for the Fellowship’s third cohort can submit applications at www.letrasboricuas.org starting on March 15, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. EDT/9:00 a.m. AST through April 30, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. EDT/5:00 p.m. AST, and fellows will be announced in fall 2024.
The next proposal submission window for the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Petroleum Research Fund (PRF) opens on Monday, February 12, 2024 and closes on Friday, March 8, 2024 (5:00 PM EST). Grant programs are available for qualified professors in non-doctoral departments:
- Three-year $70,000 Undergraduate Research (UR) grants support the research programs of established scientists and engineers at non-doctoral departments and provide financial support for students at those institutions to become involved in advanced research activities, in preparation for continued study in graduate school or employment.
- Two-year $55,000 Undergraduate New Investigator (UNI) grants provide funds for scientists and engineers who are beginning their independent careers in academia and have limited or no preliminary results for a research project they wish to pursue. UNI grants are to be used to illustrate proof of principle, i.e., feasibility, and accordingly, are to be viewed as seed money for generating preliminary results that can be used to apply for continuation funding from other agencies.
The Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE) is now accepting submissions for ASLE Grants proposals. ASLE will provide up to five grants total (up to a maximum of $1,000 each) in 2024 to support either subvention grants (funding innovative projects in ecocriticism and environmental humanities such as art installations, documentary film projects, digital humanities web projects, and book or article publication) or translation grants (funding a translation into English, or from English into other languages, of relevant ecocritical or environmental humanities work that has been previously published).
Applicants must be a current member of ASLE or an international ASLE sister organization (such as ASLE-Japan, ASLE-UKI, etc). Materials for both grants should be submitted electronically by June 10, 2024 via this Google form: https://forms.gle/SwEy32cPjLE6BdGk8
The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF) is now accepting applications for the 2024 BBRF Young Investigator Grant. The BBRF Young Investigator (YI) Grant program offers up to $35,000 a year for up to two years to enable promising investigators to either extend their research fellowship training or to begin careers as independent research faculty. The YI Grant is intended to support advanced postdoctoral fellows, instructors, and assistant professors (or equivalent).
BBRF is committed to alleviating the suffering caused by mental illness by awarding grants that will lead to advances and breakthroughs in scientific research. The foundation invests in the most innovative ideas in neuroscience and psychiatric research to better understand the causes and develop new ways to treat brain and behavior disorders.
The application deadline is Tuesday, March 12, 2024 11:59 PM Eastern.
