Subvention Grants funding innovative projects in ecocriticism and environmental humanities such as art installations, documentary film projects, digital humanities web projects, and book or article publication;
Translation Grants funding a translation into English, or from English into other languages, of relevant ecocritical or environmental humanities work that has been previously published.
Deadline to submit is June 10, 2024. Read more and apply here.
- Applications are now open for Festivals & Projects grants from the Mass Cultural Council. This new grant round of Festivals & Projects will fund activities that provide public benefit using the arts, humanities, or sciences and take place between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. These awards of $2,500 will support projects such as cultural celebrations, concert series, film festivals, public art projects, art workshops, pop-up markets, and art and nature hikes across the Commonwealth.
Eligible festivals, projects, and programs are publicly available or community-based. Funds will be available to support activities that are open to the general public, or focused on serving the needs of a particular community. This could be a geographic community, ethnic heritage, or cultural/tribal tradition and may include events, education, performances, conservation, or cultural revitalization efforts. Eligible festivals and projects may also serve portions of the general public requiring specific accommodation (i.e., seniors in care centers, incarcerated individuals, people with disabilities, people in recovery programs, etc.).
The application deadline is May 23, 2024. Program guidelines are now available.
- Mass Humanities is now accepting letters of inquiry (LOIs) for its Museum on Main Street: Voices and Votes program. Mass Humanities Museum on Main Street grants offer $10,000 for sites to host the 2025-2026 tour of Voices and Votes: Democracy in America and create programming rooted in their community.
Voice and Votes will be in Massachusetts from April 19, 2025, to February 1, 2026. Each site will host the exhibit for six weeks and create six programs related to the exhibit. Mass Humanities will provide capacity-building workshops and training in the months leading up to and during the tour.
Voice and Votes explores the history of American democracy, and how it is reflected in local stories. Based on the exhibition “American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith” at the National Museum of American History, “Voices and Votes” introduces visitors to the context and main controversies behind America’s democratic system. It explores the fight for fair representation, the different ways we can participate in democracy, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens, asking visitors to think about these questions and acting as a springboard for conversation about how these themes are reflected in local stories.
Non-profit organizations located in Massachusetts towns with a population of 12,000 or fewer are eligible to apply. LOIs are due May 10, 2024. Guidelines are available here.
Just A Reminder:
The National Science Foundation (NSF) will be holding two informational webinars concerning the 2024 NSF CAREER program this month. The NSF-wide CAREER program supports early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research.
Webinar dates and times are:
Friday, May 3, at 3:00 PM Eastern
Thursday, May 9, at 2:00 PM Eastern
Both webinars will include the same briefing on the CAREER program and key solicitation requirements followed by a question-and-answer session. (Faculty who are interested need to attend only one.)

Union College will be holding its SUITED 2024 workshop November 1-2, 2024. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the SUITED Workshop series is designed to help Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs) learn to better access the benefits of Technology, Innovation and Partnership (TIP) activities and help the NSF (and other key agencies and organizations) to better support and harness the power of PUIs.
SUITED 2024 invites faculty members from PUIs, ideally in teams that include administrators, to Union College to present their research ideas and receive informed feedback, initial assessment, and help planning next steps that might lead to commercialization or other entrepreneurial outcomes. The workshop will include lightning presentations by experts on key TIP-related topics (e.g., incubators, intellectual property, grant writing), one-on-one mentoring, and opportunities to network with like-minded faculty and others from PUIs.
The SUITED 2024 application site is now open. Applications are due by May 31, 2024.
